So, Colette and I decided to do this and she just posted hers and it really inspired mine. Hers made me laugh and reminisce and miss the god damned summer because it was honestly, like the best time of my life. It was amazing. 2007 was so wonderful, the best year of my life. Okay, now that I’ve been all mushy and gushy, let me talk about how hard this was. I didn’t really have to think twice about which gigs to put on my list, but it was really the order because as my dad likes to say “Every day you go to a gig is the best day of your life” which is just a fakt obviously, so yeah thats where I ran into my hardest part. Also, probz a lot of inside jokes will be happening but oh well. No one reads this but my friends anyway.
Top 10 Gigs of 2007
10. Scissors For Lefty @ Club DaDa, Dallas – 03.18.07
This gig was a combination of amazing and embarassing. So my roommate and I show up an hour early (that was CUTTING it) and not a single other person was there. By the time the opening band went on we were still the only people. So basically it was a personal show. And all Scissors shows are great. They are fun and entertaining and dancey and just la lala wonderful! This was also a tribute to them since I’ve seen them like 10 times this year, and they need a shout out in my life.
9. 1990s @ Echo – 08.05.07
God, what can I say about 1990s? They do make an appearance later, but Jackie is the sweetest thing walking the planet and Michael is adorable and sassy! They were just really grateful and sweet and fun and dancey and I couldn’t stop smiling and listening to them later… I don’t know, this was just an amazing show and it was the start of Jackie playing the beginning of Super Legal for me every time I ask for it hahaa. Also, picture stolen from Colette’s flickr.
8. Klaxons @ El Ray – 07.10.07
So I listened to Klaxons and liked them well enough before the gig, but ohmygod. It was magical. We were right in front of James who has some amazing moves, and I don’t know even though Cobra and Cory K were there being assholes, it was amazing and dancey and fun and WOAH. and this day contained MANY memorable moments including Klaxons walking right through the El Ray and no one noticing but us and us LEERING as hard as possible, James “eagle wings” Righton, Simon “I cant keep my eyes open” Taylor, screaming “SIMON FLUSH OUT MY EYE” and simon being 3 feet away, and Beth Ditto Jr Jr. Amazing!
7. The Horrors @ El Ray – 06.18.07
God, what can I say about the Horrors. I was lucky enough to see them twice this year. This gig was really special because we were chatting with them before hand and like, I don’t know, they are just really fascinating and attractive and well dressed and funny and wonderful. And the gig wassss absolute MADNESS. Like, I couldn’t move breathe or think but I could writhe!! And I got punched in the head. And then Dorian (my 15 year old friend who is much cooler than I am) stage invaded and I joined losing my shoes, running around stage barefoot, and then being pushed off by Spider Webb. It was absolutely incredible.
6. Maximo Park @ House of Blues Anaheim – 11.24.07

This gig was all courtesy of Duncan Lloyd who was so damn nice to us all day. This gig was absolute madness. Fuck the HOB first of all, but we were lucky enough to get into the photographers pit and basically no one said a single thing all night. They were really really tight and the stage was small and amazing and Paul was insane and LUKAS was so god damned intense. It was absolute magic. I think my favorite parts were leering at Lukas every step he took and dancing so hard to Our Velocity basically mimicking Lukas and adding the rubbish harmonizing. And Duncans gay handgesture and Art Brut sing along. I am getting nostalgic already. Good night!
5. The Maccabees @ the Troubadour – 06.15.07
Er, the Maccabees are really under appreciated as “twee pop” but really they are honestly wonderful. Possibly, one of my favorite CDs of 2007. Firstly, they played my favorite venue. Second of all, they are really amazing live. Felix in his little socks dancing around, Orlando with his dance moves and haunting in thebest way voice, and Hugo with his sexual poses and face. They sounded good, looked good and were really really really nice. They also brought out some eagle wings as well and were just fucking attractive too. This sounds really shallow, but they were SO good. And if my friends Rachel and Alison hadn’t come out and seen them, we may not have become as good friends as we are today. So HOORAY. Also, About Your Dress is probably my favorite track of 2007.
4. The Cribs @ The Troubadour -07.24.07
The Cribs are magical live. They are better than on record and they are perfect on record. Period. Despite illness and incredible drunken ramblings (and downings of Red Stripe that are fucking epic) they were amazing. Dear lord. Even though these girls hated us, we still had an amazing time and wern’t distracted by certain-look-a-likes. Fucking fab. I cannot wait to see them again. 5 times. Hopefully.
3. 1990s & Art Brut @ La Zona Rosa – 11.15.07
Well, I love 1990s with my WHOLE whole heart. We had seen them the night before in Dallas, and 1990s suggested they guestlist us and we lovingly took the up on the offer. We left Dallas at 5pm and at 8pm exactly arrived in Austin, and sprinted to the venue. 1990s came out and basically it was a lovefest for me. Jackie dedicated See You At the Lights to us for the second night and it was even more special because there were people there to be jealous of us (HAHA). They played part of Super Legal for me again as well, it was lovely. Then before You’re Supposed to be My Friend, the ad libbing they did put the biggest smile on my face. Then watching Art Brut with Jackie and his marionette dancing was just like killing my heart. Okay, I have to stop fangirling but it was one of the best days of my entire life.
2. Morrissey @ Paladium – 10.05.07
Dear god the set list was absolutely mind fucking blowing. PLAYBOYS!!! (I never wanted to kill, I am not naturally evil, the things I do to make myself more attractive to you, have I failed?) sing along was incredible, THE BOY WITH THE THORN IN HIS SIDE, Stretch Out and Wait, PLEASE FUCKING PLEASE PLEASE. Dear lord. I’m sorry this was incredible.
1. Morrissey @ Palladium – 10.06.07
The only way the previous night could be topped was the fact that we flailed/hovered on top of the barrier and Moz noticed us. FUCKING amazing.
Erm, Sorry for all the fangirling. Its just my way. All completely (mostly) harmless and funny. That is all. Bring on 2008!!!!
