All great bands, but I highly recommend Golden Animals, one of my favorite newer bands to emerge from the psych-folk (NOT to be confused with freak-folk) scene. They hail vaguely from “the desert, California” and one can hear the land’s influence in their stripped down, far-away melodies and warm harmonies. Tommy Eisner’s voice simultaneously has the deep tone of Jim Morrison’s and quirky vibratto of Devendra’s; when paired with tight blues riffs, lazy slide guitar, and Linda Beecroft’s steady drumming and sweet backing vocals the result is a delightfully southern-tinged western experience. And duh, those are the best two regions of the country so you know it’ll be good.
