Sex Beet are a three-piece from London via Leicester. I know what you’re thinking… What the fuck kind of name is Sex Beet? I don’t really know, but you know I’m a sucker for a bad name especially when it’s got such an element of humor in it. So, Sex Beet. They’ve got all the ’09 hot-points that have made Brooklyn-peers the Drums the hottest band of the 2nd half of the year: low-fi, garagey, beachy. And we all know my taste, fuck, I love all three of those things! But where the Drums try to meld the low-fi surf pop with new wave, Sex Beat go at it through a kalidescope of punky riffs, spit, and a snarl. Recommended for fans of the things I am fans of: King Khan & The Shrines, Black Lips, and the beach. Here’s a good way to summarize it: “Everything is kept nice and simple- one guitar, one organ, one drum kit – and three drunk young men shouting about girls with nice hair.”
Currently, the band have a 7″ inch out on Fistful of Records called ‘She Don’t Surf’. You can pick that up and learn more about the band at Fistful of Records. Watch the video for ‘She Don’t Surf’ below…
The band have a lot more coming up, including another single and a four-way split. “Right Here” is coming on on a split on Holy Twist Records, a 4-way 7″ not only featuring Sex Beat, but also, The Hipshakes, Thee Vicars, and The Wailin’ Yeahs. “Scarecrow” is out on another 7″ on A Fistful Of Records in October.
