The Brute Chorus @ Club Meow, The Prince Albert – Brighton, December 11th
The ever wonderful Brute Chorus are bringing their weird menagerie back to Brighton on the 11th of December. I wouldn’t miss this show. Their album was recorded live in front of an audience all in one go. That’s right – their debut album. live. all in one go. That gets an E for Effort on, well, effort and intention alone. The result is something that’s raw and chaotic, and of course (this IS the Brute Chorus) energetic but well, maybe I’m a purist but a debut album should encapsulate all that you’ve worked out live and bring to the table the best of it…. However, their live show is wonderful. The lead singer’s moustache should be enough to get you to the gigs alone but he is a fucking frontman! He works a stage like nobody I’ve seen since that strip club I went to that once. Just kidding, I’ve never been to a strip club, but this guy has got magnetism and moves. And their tunes sound great live – it is my personal belief that Chateau is one of those tunes that are perfect in their own right. Everything about it is great. Bluesy, riffy, what have you, but it slowly builds to this crescendo that is magical and the lyrics… perfect.
