A friend of mine recently turned me on to Les Rallizes Denudes. Honestly, I’m both surprised and a little embarrassed that I didn’t know of these guys sooner. An elusive Japanese noise rock that formed in the late 60s, disbanded in the mid 90s, never really released much material, harbored a communist terrorist, have been compared to The Velvet Underground (yes) and Hawkwind (NO)…obviously this stuff isn’t for everyone. At times the sound is something like a chainsaw going through a woodchipper. Incomprehensible vocals. Most of their songs are about 12 minutes long. The quality of the records is terrible, awful, you know like those obnoxious concert “videos” people record on their cell phones and then feel the need to put on YouTube. But this is the Real Shit because there were no cell phones in the 70s. One of the coolest things I’ve heard in awhile.
I’m sure this band is Old News to everybody else, but I am young and stupid and I love discovering new old bands and maybe there are a few other young and stupids out there who will hear this for the first time too.
