bob dylan friday :: happy 69th birthday bobby

Just doing a quick stop by to mention that it is the day of birth (supposedly! mind you. as I have pictoral evidence of a Bob Dylan passport clearly reading another date, March 11th I think, as his birth date) of the greatest musician/lyricist/person of all time. Yeah, I went there. Anyway, just a shout out to his greatness and his glory and the timeless classics that he wrote so many years ago. Here’s to many more years where old Uncle Bob will continue to entertain us and let us never forget that he did it, he did it first (well, not really, but still), and he did it better.

I also feel compelled to share a couple of songs with you. And considering that it’s the great one’s birthday (god, I feel like I’m writing Kim Il-Sung’s birthday wishes or something) I thought I’d share something with you that’s not something I’d normally listen to. The thought of remixing Bob Dylan should send shivers up and down anyone’s spine. Mark Ronson did it – sort of, but this is different. These songs, as remixed and added to by J.Period & K’NAAN, are much better than any remix of Bobby D that I’ve ever heard. They take the songs and add something a little extra and let me just say that they seem to adhere to and add to what the essence of the song really is… and it’s not like, a club remix or some kind of hip hop shit or making the songs into something they’re not. They’ve soundtracked my afternoon of pointless essay writing on Shakespeare and made it well, not enjoyable, but most definitely tolerable. Give these a chance… I think you might like it.. Oh also, Bob interviews are kind of interspersed into it… god, this shit really fucking WORKS.
