We all know what’s going on in Brooklyn, and most of us, frankly, don’t care anymore. However, there are a few exceptions that make me want to walk along Bedford again or 6th and pop into Cameo and see what the fuck is up in BK. One of the only things is Family Trees, who we were turned on to, not too long ago but fell deeply in love with almost immediately. Joe Pruitt, one of the dream talkin’ Family Trees, sent over a mp3 from his side project Son of Rams.

As much as it is not like what Family Trees has showed us so far, it’s still got that certain hazy ethos but where it deviates from the Dream Talkin’ 7″ is with the fuzzy riffs (although Family Trees employ that, too) and psychedelic tones. If I was to be completely frank, and I had no idea, I’d say this was an early King Tuff demo that bridged the gap between his time in Feathers before King Tuff. That’s pretty much as high of praise as I can give right now. Joe Pruitt has got it going on with Son of Rams – this song is as catchy, fun, and perfect for summer as I bragged Dream Talkin’ was – and by all means, although I’ve spent 250 words comparing the two – they’re both excellent. The talented kids in Family Trees and Son of Rams have got it, so why don’t you get it whilst you still can. It’s a dog days of summer treat for us all.

Hopefully we’ll see a fuller release this fall maybe with some dates to boot … let this tide you over until then:
