introducing :: the splinters

Not only is Weekly Tape Deck one of our favorite blogs, but they’re always fucking right on point with bands, and today they just turned me onto Berkeley/Oakland’s The Splinters. I’ve heard their name bandied around opening for people like Woven Bones (more on that later) but finally decided to check them out. And they rule!

This bright shiny number could very well be on repeat for the rest of the summer. It’s sort of a less annoying Coathangers sound — that is to say, completely less annoying. The girl vocals and garagey sound, yet doesn’t venture too far into the lo-fi realm, mesh really well together without any kind of irritation that I normally feel from that kind of stuff.  This hook heavy jam is coming out as a b-side to their forthcoming 7″ on Southpaw Records.  Only 500 pressed with the first 100 on colored vinyl.  Order now!
