
I had the incredible pleasure of seeing Bristol-by-way-of-France four-plus piece Francois and the Atlas Mountains last night at the Willkomen Records Foxtrot at Stanmer House in Brighton yesterday. The whole thing was a bit of a folky-do with pretty much no hippies smoking grass (yeah, I was sad about it too) but Francois and the Atlas Mountains spiced the whole thing up. Their live show is a bit hard to describe but it involved a great big drum, a whole lot of cute french people jumping around and a fantastic sweater. They reminded me a bit of Fool’s Gold and a whole lot of tUnE-yArDs with their polyrhythm, fresh-faced exuberance, loops, and light vocals.
