introducing :: black mekon

You guys. In the past couple of weeks, I’ve come into a fair few amazing fucking British bands that I had no idea were cultivating a really awesome little garage scene over here that has not um, been noticed as much as it should be, and that. At the forefront, probably, are this group called Black Mekon who hail from a little place called Birmingham (note to Americans: its not BirmingHAM, its Burmingum in pronunciation). Let me just say this. Black Mekon are perfect. They’re so noisy and ramshackle, but they’ve got some ridiculous melodies and super songwriting. I’ve been playing their album (they’ve got 3!) Broke Into Always On constantly since I got it, erm, this morning. BUT! I’m infatuated. ‘Drag’ is spectacularly driven, crazy loud, catchy as all fuck and just a really great jam. My favorite, though, is the really sparse but undeniably perfect ‘Brown Lullaby’. It’s so fucking short (1:12) which invariably leads me to play it on repeat more than usual, but it’s so god damned good. This band is really it. Get into them immediately and stop future music lovers from making the mistake that I did: not knowing them.
