I am loathe to admit that most of LA’s greatest exports have taken off into a national sphere, and not many bands have really come through to fill their spots, so I’m starting to have to look to other states for my garagefix. So now, I look to Oxford, Mississippi’s Bass Drum of Death and they make me want to wear jorts and plaid and say stuff like ‘Praise the Lord and pass the amunition!’, they’re that good. The project is led by Cat’s Purring (a great collective doing great music shit up in Mississippi) Collective’s John Barrett and features Colin from Unwed Teenage Mothers on drums. Although Barrett’s a busy bee (he’s also a member of the touring band for Flight), BDOD are slated to release an album for Inflated Records that should be ready around February 2011. In celebration of this great news, we get the jammer ‘Heart Attack Kid’ which is a sub-3-minute whirlwind of brash guitars, distortion and enough spittle to warrant a spitoon. Here’s a song you’re going to want to play loud as fuck.
