You guys, I fucking love it when I get hot tips about bands. I love it even more when the hot tip is something that I’m going to fucking love and that’s just what happened this morning with Victoria BC’s Dead Ghosts. I know, I keep writing more and more about Canada which as you know bothers me, but these fucking kickass little punk bands keep emerging and refusing to leave my ears. Dead Ghosts are a band that I liked immediately. Unbenknownst to me, I’ve had their shit on my computer since December of last year, but they’re just releasing their LP (they’ve already had a successful run of 7″ — and a split with Smith Westerns — and tapes) Dead Ghosts through Florida’s Dying and I just can’t stop listening. Any band who says shit like “We can get ripped and play. It’s fun, it’s nothing you have to think about.”, you know I’m going to like it. But anyway, everything I have of theirs is so like, fun and feelgood, I mean its got that grime, dirty business to it, it’s recorded in you know, some shitty basement but there’s some damn good songs in there. What I mean to say is — these songs are garagey, punky, 60s blah blah blah but they’re energetic and fun and the lo-fi business ain’t hiding bad songwriting. This is getting long and tedious and is incorporating way too much bad writing — which is what I can safely say is the opposite of Dead Ghosts. Frankly, this band rules and you need to get on it.
