introducing :: fanzine

I had heard really great things about London’s Fanzine for a few weeks before I checked them out, mainly due to the fact they were supporting Happy Birthday/Spectrals a few weeks ago. But since then, I’ve really kind of become infatuated with them. I only have 3 demos by Fanzine, but each is great in it’s own little way; and yes, we’re proud to be on shit this early, okay? That never happens. Anyway. ‘Tough’ is a slow little jam that is melodic as it is tender and super stripped down — it’s pretty great but after multiple listens, I wondered why this was recommended to me. Then I got their super fantastical ‘Susan’ which is kind of a mix of the best parts of slacker Pavement and the jangly good popness of Beach Fossils or something, but it works really well and earned itself some major repeats at my house. Then today I picked up Fanzine‘s other song ‘The Beetle Song’ which is just as Pavement-y as ‘Susan’ but it’s not just a lame cop off Stephen Malkmus, I don’t know, it’s really bright and addicting. This is degenerating into some really bad writing so I’ll just say, keep Fanzine on your list of bands to watch next year.
