introducing :: hello my name is red

Finally. Finally, I have stumbled onto a newer LA band that I haven’t seen live/heard about/missed accidentally five times. Coming from, of course, the Eastside, the newest garage trio Hello My Name Is Red (HMNR for shortsies) hit my ears just earlier today, and suffice to say, I’m pretty hooked. Taking their name from Bukowski, they’ve already hit one of my check points. Did I ever mention I’m doing English Lit? No? And maybe that I’m Bukowski incarnated? Or that I may as well have written ‘Night School’? NO? Okay. Well these dudes have my blessing to use such a great allusion in their name because their music rocks. I was just sent over some cuts from their upcoming record, The Red Scare and I’m pretty obsessed with two of them. Both are sub-3 minute jams that take cues from everything that is good and awesome in music, and definitely not overplayed (no, seriously): 50s pop, fuzz, surf — all of course, recorded in a basement (or something of similar ilk). In short, it rules. I can’t decide which is better, ‘LaTV’ or ‘Horses and Divorces’ but I’m going to go with the latter, although ‘LaTV’ is probably the more surf influenced track (suitable Ventures vibe and wonderful little solo). ‘Horses and Divorces’ is not only a hilarious title, but I really love this dudes sort of dark and floaty voice. I’m more than beyond stoked to have a new great LA band to see constantly and rave about. You’ll probably want to jump on this, too.
