introducing :: swampmeat

This Birmingham, UK band was passed onto me a while ago now, and I’ve been tremendously enjoying it ever since, so I don’t know why I haven’t gotten around to posting about them. Despite having toured America in ’07 and making an appearance at SXSW ’08 (how I am kicking myself for not seeing them), there’s hardly anything on the internet about them at all — obviously a super shame. Swampmeat are T-Bird Jones on drums and Danny C on guitar/voice (and what an excellent voice it is) and I’m kind of obsessed with their name — Swampmeat rolls off the tongue in such a pleasing way and the humor in it is ridiculous. They make fantastically honest, kooky throwback country/rockabilly jams that are deeply rooted in old-school, down-home rock ‘n roll. Swampmeat have released two albums on Cold Rice, the first — Double Dutch & Moonshine – and the second, and by far my favorite, Camp Heartbreak, was released late last year, which you can still pick up from the CR Website. ‘Brand New Cadillac’ is my current favorite with Danny crooning about a highly dysfunctional relationship with T-Bird tapping lightly behind him, then it degenerates into something more raucuous and fun. I’m describing this terribly, but this song rules. I promise.
