Don’t you hate it when bands have no internet presence whatsoever? Or a really hard band name to google? OR when you have to try and research to find out information about them? Me too, but The Castillians are totally worth the zero effort I’m putting into writing about them. The Birmingham trio of Dan, Matt and Bobby (one of whom is in Swampmeat, but I get confused) fucking RULE. While their song ‘Nosebleed’ (about drugs, obviously amazing) has been on repeat on the big playlist for a while now, the track that absolutely stole my heart is ‘Lovers Call’. I heard it a bunch of times but finally got my hands on it and have literally had it on constant repeat since. I hate to default to calling bands Black Lips-esque, but Lovers Call reminds me so much of them, I just can’t help myself. Besides, I said this post was going to be 100% lazy journalism, so I may as well live up to my disclaimer. It’s an amazing 3 minute jammer about some bitch who didn’t call back, not so scuzzed up but still a down ‘n dirty garagepunk ripper with a bit of (I’m hesitant to say) rockabilly in there. This, my friends, is another case of a=b=c. To answer your obvious questions: No, I don’t know where to get their CD. I also don’t know if they play live anymore (always late on shit). I don’t know what else is going to come from Camp Castillians, but I hope something is. Or rather, I hope someone answers my questions for me. Regardless, you need this song in your life – that’s a fact.
