Do you like Cloud Nothings? Me too. Their drummer, Jayson, also plays in a little band also out of the Cleveland, Ohio area called Wombs, who recently, I became infatuated with. If I’m correct, and I might be, I have this thing, it goes from infatuated with, to enamoured with, to obsessed with — so that’ll let you know the extent that I like this band so far. They put out their second LP, Unitopians, at the end of the summer, and it’s awesome. Usually, I’ll class stuff as garage pop, but this definitely errs on the side of pop garage — with, of course, a pretty strong weirdo edge. Although people have said that ‘God Is My Co-Pilot’ is the star of the album, I’m going to have to stick with my strange choice for a favorite: ‘Heart & Lungs’ which is really kind of a confused little track, weaving drunkenly between bright and, as I call them, happy chords; weird, dark drums; and then the somewhat strained but yearning, echoing vocals — it’s really a track that’s kind of confused and keeps breaking down on itself. It shouldn’t work, and really, I don’t know how it does, or how brains think to make a song like this, but it fucking works and, frankly, rules. I think it might be a grower, but there’s something about it’s oddity that is incredible endearing. See, look at that, one review and this band has gone from me being infatuated to practically enamoured with. This rules.

Their whole LP can be downloaded via their bandcamp, and if you want a physical copy, click above to their myspace.
