Have you ever heard of Ysplanti, Michigan? Me neither. I’m guessing neither has anyone like, not from the Detroit area, but I wouldn’t count on it staying that way.

Swimsuit, of the aforementined Ysplanti, are comprised of Fred Thomas (ex Saturday Looks Good To Me), Shelley (ex Tyvek), Dina (of Secret Twins), and Amber. They have a knack for making really compelling instrumental songs (see ‘Dolphin’ off their that don’t drip too heavily with reveb or rely too heavily on surf, although both components are present, yet still invoke all that kind of sunshine and joy. They also make really wonderful pop songs of which ‘Sunlight’ is the highlight, there’s no doubt in my mind about that. This is really the ace in their deck, unfolding beautifully; each twist of strange and endearing vocal, each turn of fuzzy guitar brings something great — I can’t get this out of my head for the life of me. I bet you won’t be able to either.

You can pick up their 7″ Dolphins/Heart Love via Lifelike as sadly, their two demo tapes are sold out.
