introducing :: hanni el khatib

I’ve been putting off and putting off checking out LA-via-San Francisco garage-blues man Hanni El Khatib who our buddies Rollo & Grady have been bigging up a ton recently. What a mistake. How often do I find myself saying that, like, at least 15 times a month, or something. But anyway, I’m not afraid to say it was such a critical error to pass on Hanni. I’m not going to make this comparison just because both Hanni and Ty Segall are from San Francisco, or because they both started out as one-man garage bands — but because they are birds of the same feather, and I don’t see how you could like Ty and not get into this rollicking (albeit less fuzzy than Ty) jam from Hanni El Khatib. Loved One, which will hit your ears officially on Hanni’s forthcoming LP, Will The Guns Come Out, is really blues-based, and it’s got a super down, bedroom recording feeling about it, yet Hanni manages to make it sound a lot more clear than some of his peers. This dude obviously has a killer set of pipes and if he writes songs that are as no-nonsense, concise and well-written as this, he’s a name to keep on your radar for 2011 absolutely.
