introducing :: king lollipop

The Bay Bridged just premiered two new cuts today from Oakland bands, and the protagonist of this post, King Lollipop is involved in both. Cody Blanchard’s day job is guitarist/co-writer in the amazing Shannon & The Clams, and he’s just revealed the details of his side-project King Lollipop. And it’s fucking great. On 1-2-3-4-Go! Records will release his debut cassette. Just like his work in S&TC, this is a 50s-referencing excersize in excelling through simplicity whilst being catchy as all hell. ‘Cheeseburger & Fries’ is infectuous, feel good … goodness about love and cheeseburgers. Among other topics discussed on his new cassette (which you can hear on at the link above), dumspter diving is not only my favorite, but a hobby of the men I love, so this is all good to me. Anyone who has been described as a “crooning, hiccuping, lo-fi garage version of Buddy Holly with a touch of Marc Bolan” is worth adoring. Get on this.
