introducing: the fabulous st. knicholas cage

I used to have a running joke when I lived in Texas with some of my friends about certain states that were dead to us, so we would purposely not say the names or butcher the pronunciation. Ooklahama was one of those states. But then I discovered the incredibly named The Fabulous St. Knicholas Cage who hail from the state of Oklahoma, so now I have a reason to speak favorably about possibly one of the worst states in America. The Fabulous St. Knicholas Cage showed up in my inbox earlier this week, and of course, based on the incrediballsness of the name, I checked them out. That’s right, that’s all it takes to get your email opened by me. Thank god they’re awesome. ‘Bloody Beach Blanket‘ is probably the most faithful homage to real 60s surf that I’ve heard in a while. Anything that harkens back to a little band my Grandfather produced in the 60s, The Ventures, is just in my blood to like. Luckily, this little sublime slice is more than a modern reproduction of what’s already been, with a little psychedelic freakout in the middle, and a strong grasp of harmony — I can’t wait to hear more off this band. They remind me a lot of Dead Ghosts, so if that’s yr kind of thing — jump on board with this, because it seriously rules.
