It’s been a while since I blabbed about my favorite Leeds band, Eagulls, who have been making a bit of a name for themselves since their debut 7″, Council Flat Blues, earlier in February. ‘Possessed‘ came out of nowhere and I could not be happier in any way. It is, of course, loud as balls and shows how magically incredible the bands former hardcore roots translate into something much more, um, listenable with its pestiferous melodies, intimidating vocals and touches of grunge. I’m seriously down for whatever this band have to offer, although they’re not wildly imaginative or going to seriously surprise or shock anyone, they are doing something impeccably that nobody else is in England right now. And that’s a fact.
Eagulls play with the currently indomitable Iceage at the Old Blue Last on September 1st. They’re also playing this Friday at Upset the Rhythm’s Yes Way! for just a fiver and a bunch of other good bands.
