From the instant the guitars kick in on Royal Headache‘s Down The Lane, I would venture to say that it is impossible to not get sucked into their beautiful, redolent world of 60s garage-soul. Coming off their recently released R.I.P Society/Goner debut LP, Royal Headache, I’m honestly frightened by how many irresistible hooks these Aussies can fit into one song seamlessly with the soulful vocals; the meshing of shiny riffs and fuzzy hooks work to make this one of the best songs I’ve heard in a minute. Rest assured that Down The Lane isn’t just the greatest cut off the album, it’s indicative of the whole tone and shape of the album – each song not only rips ass but flows perfectly, the way a quick hit collection of 12 two-and-three minute jams should. Get these two cuts, and then probably just go buy the whole album, it’s a top 10er of the year for sure.
