Queens, NY’s The Beets have already made one of my favorite records of 2011, and in an unfortunate coincidence, also one of the most overlooked. Pitchfork even forgot that it was released this year. However, proving they’re a prolific and excellent band, they’ve announced they’ve moved to Hardly Art who will release their third record Let the Poison Out, on October 24. Off this album, we’ve got Doing As I Do which is a quintessential Beets cut, equal parts skiffle, lo-fi and humor (‘Don’t be afraid, you will not die/ And if you die / whatever‘. The simple and breezy rhythms and double vocals work as perfectly as they ever have, capturing something that manages to be laid back and unduly catchy at the same time. Very much looking forward to this record.
