Monday, April 11th, 2011I said that I was looking forward to this upcoming release (on my Shit I’m Excited For Spring 2k11 post) without knowing shit about it, other than that it’s put out by Ty Segall and Goner Records. mp3 :: assassins 88 – scanners
Tuesday, April 5th, 2011Canberra’s crazed noisy gutterpunks Assassins 88 have just released what they’re calling The Kaneda EP. The four song EP was written along with their first LP in 2009, and it’s taken two years for these puppies to be released via their label Dream Damage, but it’s definitely worth the wait. ‘Scanners‘ which you can find below is what I love about them – it’s noisy as fuck, some might even describe it as almost abrasive, and it’s got some really great melodies. You can get the full EP up at Dream Damage. Highly recommended.

nrbw guide to :: upcoming spring releases (as stolen from p4k)
Saturday, April 2nd, 2011Every so often Pitchfork does these ‘upcoming release’ posts and I really appreciate them, because it reminds me about what I need to listen to, but unfortunately, they put too much bullshit in with the good stuff. Like Beady Eye’s limited edition thing for Record Store Day. No one needs to know about that. Except I just told you, oh well. But I’ve cut the shit down so you know exactly what you need to listen to coming up. Yr welcome! Bold and italicized will let you know how excited I am for the album

album :: ty segall – goodbye bread
Friday, March 4th, 2011Our favorite SF Wunderkind, Ty Segall, like some of his other great SF peers (John Dwyer anyone?!) is extremely prolific, has announced another LP. The follow up to the fucking incredible Melted, which will be out on Ty’s new label, Drag City, on June 21st, and it’s strangely titled Goodbye Bread .
At some point in the past, Ty visited Tripwire and recorded this video of ‘Goodbye Bread‘ which will presumably be on this album. Peep it below:
album :: sonny & the sunsets – hit after hit + mp3/dates
Thursday, February 24th, 2011Best news, y’all! Some of my favorite San Fransiscuns, Sonny & The Sunsets, have announced that their releasing their 2nd LP, Hit After Hit, which quite frankly, is probably what we’re going to get. Their new label, Fat Possum (damn! git it!), will release the album on April 12th. ‘I Wanna Do It’ is the first cut off it, and it’s everything that I love about Sonny Smith and his band of Sunsets. Gentle and calming while straying towards that sunny (god, excuse the pun) optimism that I adored in their first LP, there’s a great use of keyboard and of course, their mastery of simplicity and catchy as fuck choruses. Check out the tracklisting of Hit After Hit and then download the amazing ‘I Wanna Do It’ below…
FYI, Los Angeles and San Diego peeps, Sonny & The Sunsets will be playing in San Diego at the Soda Bar (kool place, in my opinion) on the 31st of March with The Sandwitches and Earth Girl Helen Brown!! Then on the 1st of April, they’ll bring the Sandwitches with them to play the Echo. Be there.
Hit After Hit:
01 She Plays Yo-Yo With My Mind
02 I Wanna Do It
03 Home and Exile
04 Reflections on Youth
05 Girls Beware
06 The Bad Energy From LA Is Killing Me
07 Teen Age Thugs
08 Heart of Sadness
09 Don’t Act Dumb
10 Acres of Lust
11 Pretend You Love Me
album :: chain & the gang – music’s not for everyone + mp3
Wednesday, February 16th, 2011Hooray, y’all, everyone’s favorite oddball Ian Svenonius and his gang, Chain & The Gang, have announced the follow-up to their Down With Liberty…Up With Chains! which will see the light of day via the great K Records on February 22nd. Music’s Not For Everyone will most likely daze and confuse you in the best way with their weirdo space organ, ultra-bluesy riff blasts and hilarious/esoteric lyrics. In January they released a 7″ called “Cry Cry Cry (Over You)” which has really got me super stoked to hear this record. Check out the artwork and the tracklist below for the LP and then grab ‘Snakes On A Plane’ which features the incredibly blessed vocalist/K Records dude Calvin Johnson saying some hilarious stuff (‘if there’s a weak link / someone’s gonna hang!‘). It rules.

1 Why Not?
2 Not Good Enough
3 For Practical Purposes (I Love You)
4 Livin’ Rough

album :: tyler, the creator – goblin
Tuesday, February 15th, 2011Apparently, I’m actually really, really on the OFWGKTA bandwagon, and I was pretty stoked to hear that sort-of-honcho Tyler, The Creator has signed a one album deal with XL Recordings to release his new LP, Goblin. I think he puts it best, via Twitter, “Yes, I Did A One Album Thing With XL. Thats Family. Don’t Trip, Still Have %100 Creative Control Over Raps, Beats, Videos, Covers. Fuck You.” If you haven’t seen the amazing, disturbing, exhilarating video for ‘Yonkers’, the lead single off the LP, do so below. Immediately.

mp3 :: shannon & the clams – sleep talk
Monday, February 7th, 2011The Bay Bridged just premiered a brank new track from SF’s Shannon & The Clams (also known for her work in Hunx & His Punx) forthcoming album that will hit you in April 5th, 2011 called ‘Sleep Talk‘ via 1-2-3-4 Go! Records. I’m burning to share this with you because I’m looking forward to this album so much (Hunx’s, too) but Shannon really owns it. This eponymous jam bodes incredible well for the rest of the album – there’s that Motown/beach sound, and then there’s just little hints of their first LP in the guitar, but Shannon’s voice just does it for me – it’s kind of husky and dark but like, really strong. It’s immediate and catchy as fuck, which I say about everything, but there’s no shame in knowing what you like — and I fucking LIKE this.
