black lips singles club :: arboles de la barranca (rudo y cursi ost)
Monday, January 18th, 2010Another day, another rare Black Lips track that I bring to the table. Although I’ve preeeetty much given all that I have to give (a few tricks up my sleeve yet, though) this one is really special. Here’s a track that they did for gay lovers Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna movie Rudo y Cursi. Downloading this track was hilarious because the OST has three version of this song and I downloaded the two mariachi versions first. Anyway, enjoy.

black lips singles club :: ‘leroy faster’ (demo)
Friday, January 15th, 2010I don’t know if this is news to anyone, but Cole Alexander aka Old King Cole Younger has started contributing to Bradford Cox’s blog over @ Deerhunter Blog. His entries so far are nothing short of spectacular, solely because apparently the man has learned how to use the internet. This is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I’m not mocking him because I am mean, but because last year at SXSW, I saw him struggling to use a cell phone. Struggling so much that Ian had to step in and help, so him using the internet is nothing short of miraculous. However, he has been posting some weird videos but ALSO! Some mp3s!

black lips singles club :: ‘you know’
Monday, November 30th, 2009Here’s just another tribute to the Black Lips’ insanity/genius in the epic shrine to them that is my life. It comes from the ‘I’ll Be With You’ vinyl single. That’s the one that DOESN’T have Faris Badwan’s Boomkat cover of the song, that’s from the Drugs 7″, people, get it right! Anywho, this is ridiculous and wonderful – same as all Black Lips songs, but with the same kind of filthy/dirty-south-ness that they had circa Let It Bloom. Enjoy!

black lips singles club :: dirtbombs/’make it’ split 7″
Saturday, November 21st, 2009The Lips and Bombs triumphant 2006 tour ended with a couple of leftover hand-stamped singles. The Blacks deliver the country-styled original “Make It” while the Bombs forget the Eurythmics classic “Missionary Man” live and in mono. Sorry, they’re…gone – so said the record label but I am craftier than that and I bring to you ‘Make It’ and a live version from Robb’s house.

black lips singles club :: ‘disconnection’
Sunday, October 25th, 2009This is the April 2009 release in the Sub Pop Singles Club 3.0 that was limited to 1500 copies on pink and blue vinyl. Due to pressing problems, the 7″ wasn’t actually released until early May. Honestly, this was released with absolutely no fanfare, it’s just due to my indescribable love for Black Lips that I came across these two songs. Their singles, especially the rare ones, are such good tracks. So scuzzy, so dirty, so rockin’. It’s just hard to believe that not everyone in the world is obsessed with this band the way I am. 99 Victs is my favorite of the two, but in no way am I saying that Disconnection is bad. Download ASAP.

Your wish is my command. That’s how we run it here at Nu Rave Brain Wave. Annonymous commenter from my last Black Lips post reminded me that there is an actual, recorded Black Lips song that I do not own. This is unacceptable by my standards. So immediately, I came home and within 5 minutes found this very rare Black Lips song. It’s been out of print WAY longer than the Jam Club EP. But fear not, loyal readers, for I am here to bring you the best in rarities and amazing shit. So there.

black lips singles club :: the jam club 7″
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009
Many moons ago, when I was first getting into a little band called the Black Lips, I read about this mysterious, out of print age old 7″ by the band called “Live at the Jam Club”. I never found a single copy, and I cheked Ebay obsessively, as I do, but never with any luck. I did, however, get my hands on one track which I played over and over after I heard them play it live in Pomona. Anyway, I finally got my hands on the complete recording and after you see the tracklist, you’ll know why:
Live at the Jam Club 7″
mp3 | Black Lips – Wild Man
mp3 | Black Lips – Too Much Monkey Business
mp3 | Black Lips – Jack The Ripper
mp3 | Black Lips – Working
The cover of Jack the Ripper is so good, I’ve had it on repeat since 2am when the download finally finished.
Here’s what Shake Your Ass Records (who incidentally put out the first Uptown Bums single) had to say about the recording:
“Live 2-track recording of an Italian gig from their recent European jaunt. The sound quality is a lot better than would be expected, in a medium-fi kinda way, and it sounds like one of the shows where the band actually plays the songs instead of self-destructing. Sounds pretty reminiscent of when I saw them a couple weeks ago. Great versions of “Wild Man” and “Jack the Ripper” plus two more. Scum stats= Limited press (400 copies), less than one hundred of which appear to be on urine colored vinyl. Surprisingly worthwhile.”black lips singles club :: o katrina (live at amoeba)

If you remember 2007, and I barely do, but if you do recall – in July, Black Lips played a free Amoeba show and if you were lucky enough to attend… you’ll know that it was totally kickass (show me a B.L show that doesn’t and…. I’ll punch you in the face or give you a cookie) but ANYWAY. Amoeba, I guess, is doing some really cool free give-a-ways and shockingly, Black Lips was on there. I only say shockingly because it took them a full year to put up the Cribs show and they still haven’t done Adam Green’s (to be fair, I’m only looking forward to this one because I semi-star in it). So here’s a gem from Black Lips show. It was a long time ago – I went to see Vampire Weekend open for Grand Ole Party at the Troubadour later that night….. crazy.
