Option #1:

Harlem at Spaceland. We’ve been listening to these guys a ton lately, their music is catchy as hell and a little bit sassy, aka right up our alley.
Damn, there’s a lot going on here. As I’m sure you’ve figured out by now, we LUV Best Coast, Wavves are pretty cool, Andy Milonakis? Umm, weird, but okay. This one is 21+ but FREE with RSVP here: rsvp@mishkanyc.com
Lastly, if you feel like making the trek out to Orange County and if you like old fart bands–and I say this with affection, i LOVE old fart bands, The Damned and Buzzcocks are playing the Musink Tattoo Festival.
I am torn. TORN! I need a time turner a la Hermione Granger.

***BOWERY BALLROOM 21st JAN 2010 – CANCELLED***
Sorry to everyone who was planning on coming to this show, but it has now been cancelled due to stupidity on my own behalf.. there might be a future date, but I wouldn’t bet on it… So best to contact the ticket office for a refund if you got tickets in advance.
Again, deeply sorry.
Dev.
Here’s a widget with tracks you can download including Dev’s Elvis cover and there’s more to come as the release of Life is Sweet! Nice to Meet You approaches… Look for more tracks on 25th of Jan and the 1st of Feb.
And finally, in Spacecamp news….

Fuck the Magic Kingdom (the M to the K!) because I think that the greatest place on Earth is the ECHO. Liz Garo runs a tight ship over there and here’s just another reason they are the best. Outside of booking the best in Los Angeles bands, taking the best talent and getting them ready for a national stage, they also get the best in up and coming touring bands from all over the world (dedication to having more than just indie shit), they also get really really big shows in the little venue. AND THEN, Every Monday they’ve got the residencies – four bands per night usually, with a headliner whose making waves around Los Angeles, but it’s a constant run of friends, fans, and music and they’re usually pretty great. Sometimes they’ve got Tuesday residencies which are the same as Monday, but now they’ll be a little different. This time, they’ve got less bands, more community, beer, pizza and bingo. So, here comes the Echo, the greatest place on earth, making a better community of bands and people and having great stuff going constantly. Echo, I miss you.

Tomorrow.

GO GO GO GO GO GO

Hey there – So, we have a record coming out February 2nd and to celebrate we want to throw a show at YOUR house. We’re not out to thrash your place or anything – we’d come, play, hang out and have a couple of beers. All your friends plus a few of ours = guaranteed good times. If you’re interested, just respond here in 50 words or less and let us know why we should play your house! Ideally, your house will be in the Los Angeles area, anywhere between Long Beach to Downtown LA to Santa Monica.
Hit them up @ MYSPACE if you wish to have them over… I mean who wouldn’t want them to play? Look at those little faces!
Would you like to relive the greatest moments of you life at Psych Fest 2009? I know that Colette and I had a wonderful/terrifying experience at Psych Fest where we got to see some amazing bands – not as many as we’d have liked – seeing as we got chased out of the venue (full sprint!) on two occasions by Neil Young’s doppelganger. What was initially fucking terrifying, probably would be comedic now provided someone caught it on tape and put it on the DVD. Speaking of the DVD, you can purchase it through Pysch Fest’s online store.
Additionally, they’re having a really cool little screening in Austin if you’re around on the 19th of December….

My favorite band of the moment are releasing their debut single at the end of the month on Chess Club Records and it’s going to be a monumetous occasion. ‘Closer’ is an epic song. Period end of story. It’s surely going to mark the beginning of a trajectory that will hit gargantuan heights, of course. The single version of the song is now up on Lyrebirds myspace and I’m sure glad it is – I’m most certainly going to be buying it. The bass is actually audible in this version and the guitar is a teeny bit more haunting. The synth sounds lovely as it ever did, but Adam Day’s voice sounds excellent on the new mix of the song. It’s really captivating and enticing in a really dark-scary-stranger kind of way. Go listen to it, or download the demo version below (beware, it’s bad quality like 96kbps or something) but FUCKING BUY THIS BANDS SINGLE. Oh and see them live below:

“In Los Angeles during the mid-’60s, music was everywhere – from the garages of Orange County, to the dingbat apartments of the San Fernando Valley, to the bungalows of Laurel Canyon. But without a doubt, the epicenter of the music scene was the Sunset Strip, where “freaks” filled the rock clubs lining the famed Hollywood thoroughfare. Rhino continues the storied Nuggets tradition with a four-disc boxed set that mines the city’s rich musical history for unsung gems. WHERE THE ACTION IS! LOS ANGELES NUGGETS 1965-1968 will be available September 22 from Rhino Records for a suggested list price of $64.98.”

And our pals at Amoeba are celebrating this awesome release with in-store performances by Jackie DeShannon, Keith Allison, Danny Hutton , The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, The Standells, and P.F. Sloan. This all kicks off at 6pm tomorrow, September 22nd. Pre-order through amoeba.com for cool swag like t-shirts and signed posters too!
Very very cool. I would definitely pick this up if you have the cash. About time LA’s rich music scene of the 60s got some credit!
Did I mention that you can get in free to this bitch by RSVP’ing HERE???
