Every year on April 15th the MLB celebrates Jackie Robinsons life & legacy, not only in respect to his athletic achievements (which were of course considerable, keep in mind baseball was only his 2nd best sport!) but with regard for his major sacrifice for equality. If you don’t know Jackie Robinson’s story, I would highly recommend watching Ken Burn’s Baseball 1930s-1940s and 1940s-1950s for a really in depth look at Jackie’s greatness that doesn’t shy away from his humanity as well. Above you will find a song honoring Jackie Robinson, also used in KB’s Baseball, but which is awesome — not only because baseball was truly the American past-time then, so much that it bled into pop music, but because it’s a great fucking song. Of course, its Count Basie so can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be amazing. #jazz

Nothing that I love more than a video that is highly amusing despite containing no inside jokes that I even get, or anything else to explain what makes it so joyous. But Heavy Hawaii have always done this for me — can’t even hope to dislike anything this band does because it’s all fucking good. Their video for the new single Super Bowl XXIX, which you can/should/must pick up a copy from Art Fag Recordings, is one of the best ones I’ve seen in a while. Our favorites, The Bell Peppers, were originally planning to do a Holiday EP entitled The Jingle Bell Peppers…. which didn’t happen. However, they did release this ultra cool Mexican-Santa themed video for their John Lennon cover Happy Xmas (War Is Over). Of course, it rules.

Directed by Hannah Lew, it also features one of my favorite people, King Tuff as an overbearing manager. It’s no secret around these parts that I’m of the mindset that Canberra’s TV Colours can do absolutely no wrong. Above, you should check out the video for their preposertously catchy anthem TV Glow. Besides having some footage of one of the most hilarious shows (that dinosaurs one where the baby goes “I’m da baby!”), it’s an absolute stunner of a pop song that’s burried deep beneath twisting and convulsing layers of fuzz and distortion, and of course, it’s loud as fuck. Manchester’s Daily Life, who you might remember from before, are one of my ‘keep an eye on’ type of bands. I forsee some good things coming to them in 2012, if they keep pumping out the goods as they are. The above video for King of Sports is one of those songs that grabs you with its immediacy, but upon multiple listens only gains strength. I don’t know if this is going to be released or anything, but I am reminded once again how excited I am for more Daily Life stuff.

As expected, here is the beautifully trippy video for Acid Glasses‘ new single (out now via Stroll On Records) on which JPEG Hoarder is the entrancing double a-side. Our main Memphis man is coming over to the UK later this week for a few shows, the first of which is at this weekends Binnacle Festival. Single day tickets are a steal at £8 and if I didn’t have like 35 jobs and no interest in seeing most of those bands, I’d still go to see Acid Glasses. You should also probably head down to Catch on Tuesday the 18th to celebrate Stroll On Records first release with some very special guests, and me.
