“In Los Angeles during the mid-’60s, music was everywhere – from the garages of Orange County, to the dingbat apartments of the San Fernando Valley, to the bungalows of Laurel Canyon. But without a doubt, the epicenter of the music scene was the Sunset Strip, where “freaks” filled the rock clubs lining the famed Hollywood thoroughfare. Rhino continues the storied Nuggets tradition with a four-disc boxed set that mines the city’s rich musical history for unsung gems. WHERE THE ACTION IS! LOS ANGELES NUGGETS 1965-1968 will be available September 22 from Rhino Records for a suggested list price of $64.98.”
[full description + track lists on Rhino Records' website]

And our pals at Amoeba are celebrating this awesome release with in-store performances by Jackie DeShannon, Keith Allison, Danny Hutton , The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, The Standells, and P.F. Sloan. This all kicks off at 6pm tomorrow, September 22nd. Pre-order through amoeba.com for cool swag like t-shirts and signed posters too!

Very very cool. I would definitely pick this up if you have the cash. About time LA’s rich music scene of the 60s got some credit!

Good ole Amoeba, always up on their shit, getting the videos up. It’s not like we had to wait 1+ year for the Cribs, and this one is getting pretty fucking old as well. But regardless, this is a great song, by a great band, at a great store, and even the NRBW girls make some awkward cameos. Yeah, I’m talking about myself in 3rd person, but yeah awesome.

If you remember 2007, and I barely do, but if you do recall – in July, Black Lips played a free Amoeba show and if you were lucky enough to attend… you’ll know that it was totally kickass (show me a B.L show that doesn’t and…. I’ll punch you in the face or give you a cookie) but ANYWAY. Amoeba, I guess, is doing some really cool free give-a-ways and shockingly, Black Lips was on there. I only say shockingly because it took them a full year to put up the Cribs show and they still haven’t done Adam Green’s (to be fair, I’m only looking forward to this one because I semi-star in it). So here’s a gem from Black Lips show. It was a long time ago – I went to see Vampire Weekend open for Grand Ole Party at the Troubadour later that night….. crazy.
