Watch more about Black Lips/Mark Ronson collaboration. And give it to us already, damnit. (I’ve edited about 500 words about how I adore them out of this post). You’re welcome.

video :: vice presents new garage explosion: in love with these times part 1

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

I just spent the past 25 minutes of my life checking out this fucking radical video that Vice is putting out in three parts over the next two days, and then will air in it’s entirety on the 25th. It’s called New Garage Explosion: In Love With These Times and it’s basically most of my favorite bands talking about other bands that I really like. You get to hear about/from Jay Reatard, Black Lips, Thee Oh Sees, and Ty Segall (well, and many more, but I love them!). It’s focusing on the garage communities in San Francisco, Oakland, Detroit, New York, Memphis, Atlanta and Portland. Notably, and sadly, excluded is Los Angeles. This is absolutely worth 25 minutes of your time. Watch it.

black lips :: consistently ridiculous, even with ca$hmoney

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

The photo above, as you may well see, is Black Lips guitarist (and possibly one of my favorite people on this earth) with a grill. Apparently, ‘Ian made him’ and he’s trying to ‘change his look’. He may well want to start with a new hat, that bitch has been making the rounds since Oct. 08. Cole also talked to Spin about the new album, which will hopefully see the light of day in January or February. The most choice quote of all? “I love dumpster diving. It’s one of my passions.” (Oh, ps: hear Joe Bradley do a version of ‘So Long to Carolina’ which supposedly will be on the new album below)

black lips singles club :: live @ robs house

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Welcome back to our first coloumn that we ever started for this blog, for one of the bands we truly love the most. Black Lips Singles Club returns with the full live performance that ended up being called Live at Rob’s House. A great show and live recording for any Black Lips fan featuring a great King Khan & The BBQ cover which doesn’t get played live much these days and mainly the early shambolic tracks. It’s pretty freakin’ rad.

black lips singles club :: best napkin i ever had

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Okay, so do y’all remember a couple of weeks ago the Black Lips put out a single or free download or whatever of “Before You Judge Me” through Adult Swim? Well, something tells me they’re gearing up to do more stuff (hi, album? it’s only been TWO years!) because they’re releasing another free download – which happens to be a 7″ split with Pierced Arrows. Their song is called “Best Napkin I Ever Had”, which inspired the amazing tweet: Best Song about a Napkin I Ever Heard, which will be out through Scion A/V which apparently has a great partnership with Black Lips and Vice so download the track below.

black lips singles club :: before you judge me

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

I’m pretty sure it was just yesterday that I was lamenting the loss of my obsessive love for Black Lips and wishing they’d do something to reignite my love for them and hopefully tour etc and then this morning I wake up and what do I see?

Black Lips are up on Adult Swim’s 8 Singles in 8 Weeks series. Before You Judge Me is raw and bluesy.

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Have you missed Black Lips Singles Club? I’m almost out of things to post for you…. but I do have the Daytrotter session that Black Lips did during their stint at SXSW 2009. It’s an excellent one. Enjoy
