Dananananaykroyd switch lineup around

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

From their blogspot (which will be and should be linked from this space under blogroll or something):

“It is our sad duty to inform you that Laura is no longer playing bass in Dananananaykroyd. The only way the band can continue is if every member is on the same page musically and that each member’s efforts and passions are towards making us the most rocko band possible.

“We’d like to add that we love Laura and wish her all the best and we will miss hanging out with her all the time.”

“In the meantime, our friend Ryan McGinness will be joining us on bass for our tours this year,” they wrote, “so be sure to come over and say ‘hiya, pal’ to him at shows.”

This is definitely sad times but I know Dananananaykroyd will continue being one of the best, most hilarious, engaging bands out there who are STELLAR live. Oh and they are going to Australia. Luckies! Hopefully I will see them live in like September or something. HOPEFULLY.

album :: dananananaykroyd – hey everyone

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Hello, friends. Just popping in to make a service announcement about music. If you like music, you’ll buy “Hey Everyone” which is the debut album by Dananananaykroyd. If you don’t buy it, starting tomorrow, we can never really be friends. Also, you hate kittens and puppies. And your heart is a black hole. No, but seriously, it’s a really awesome album, because unlike some lazy bands, they’ve recorded all new versions of all the songs which is wonderful. (Ps. I’m looking at you Vampire Weekend. Trying to pull that fuckery.) Yeah, so its really great. My favorites right now are “Black Wax” and “Some Dresses” AND “TOTALLY BONE”. So buy it. Do it.

This show was so amazing that it killed Dananananaykroyd – well, David and Calum. John came down to draw body rings around them and scribble Danana. THEN Duncan left the band for about 2 minutes and my friend Katie joined in his place. Then they made up and had a lot of hugs w/ us + the crowd and then they stopped playing music and we all cried. View the rest of this set at my FLICKR.

It’s kind of shit since it’s only a minute long but it’s my favorite Dananana… song and basically I had to jump around and enjoy myself and not videotape shit.

I have to say they are one of my top 4 bands that I am totally enamoured by due to SXSW. GOD LOVE THEM.

GET THE ALBUM. It’s coming out soon!

mp3 :: dananananaykroyd – pink sabbath

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Twice in my life, I’ve seen people physically fight to the song “Chelsea Dagger” by the Fratellis. Confusing, I know. If I had to choose a Glaswegian band to fight to, it’d have to be Dananananaykroyd. I think once they described themselves as fight-pop. I have to agree. Now, if this was a fight I was easily winning, and somehow (even though I was fighting) I was managing to look really good, I think I’d pick “Pink Sabbath” as my fight song. The song basically begins in media res and leaves no time/need for a slow winding intro and I honestly, could see pummeling someone to this song. “Pink Sabbath” is all upbeat guitars and filled with shouting and “YEAH’s” and like most Danana (excuse the abbreviation) end up being kind of a long, winding road (in a good way!!!) but you don’t even realize it because you’re busying, being (aurally) mesmerized by the guitars bouncing off each other in a really playful way or b) trying recognizing which drummer is playing which beat OR c) counting the voices that are shouting at you. I know I’ve been talking about this band for like, jesus, a year now but after their amazing “Sissy Hits EP” and this single that proceeds their album “Hey Everybody”, I know for a fact they are going to take over the world.
