OMG GREAT NEWS YOU GUISE
Thursday, August 21st, 2008JOHNNY MARR OFFICIALLY JOINS THE CRIBS
The well-known guitarist admitted he’s been a serious fan of the Yorkshire brothers for some time.
Marr told 6 Music: “It’s totally inspiring as a guitar player because they’re my favourite band that I’ve heard in a long time and I’m still a fan, you know. I think it’s important to nurture that, and think like a fan, and it’s not always easy to think like a fan – you have to really genuinely like band.”
And he continued to praise his new bandmates saying his fan status compliments his involvement in their work: “When I got into The Cribs second record, I was just really excited because they were a band that I could be a fan of, and I get to be in a band that I’m a real fan of, so that’s fantastic just from a musical point of view.”
Cribs on Marr
And Gary Jarman, The Cribs’ bassist, says it’s a dream come true to have Johnny Marr in the band.
They’d begun thinking about the new record but Jarman said that the dynamics immediately shifted when Marr came onboard: “It changed it all of a sudden, we were perfectly willing to sit back a little bit and finish that record and see where it went – but then all of a sudden, when we started rehearsing together it was a really creative time straight away.
“That was in January or February and all of a sudden you’re thinking about all of this new stuff but you’ve still got all these shows to do before you can get on with all that.””It’s totally inspiring as a guitar player because they’re my favourite band that I’ve heard in a long time.”

Their collaborative album
As for what album number four is sounding like, don’t expect it to sound like a simple Smiths-Cribs collaboration.
Marr said: “What we’ve done so far, people who’ve heard it say it sounds very much like The Smiths mashed with The Cribs and that’s obviously quite an exciting prospect for some people but it’s not really enough for us that.”
He said they want to take The Cribs’ sound to the next level with their next album.
“We want it to be the next version of The Cribs,” explained Marr. “One of the things I liked about the band before I even met them was that they sounded like achievers really, almost like over-achievers. I just heard one track and hoped that everything else was as good as that.”
There are high expectations of the material – considering the collaboration, but Johnny says they aren’t listening to anyone else but themselves.
“We don’t really have to be told by the press or by record companies, or management or anything like that that we have to do something really great, no one has to tell us that – and it’s not competing with their past or my past either, it’s just as fans of music, we wanna do something really great that impresses us,” Marr told 6 Music.
And Jarman added: “We want it to be more than the sum of its parts. The sum of its parts is The Cribs and The Smiths, it bares both genes, but you wanna be more than the sum of its parts.”
Future plans
Speaking before their one-off gig at London’s Kings College Student Union last night (19 August), Marr revealed his excitement about playing some intimate shows together.
“I’m really looking forward to it, I can’t come soon enough and I wish we were doing more of them really. I like these little gigs. We’re doing Leeds and Reading at the weekend and then we’ve got a little break – then we’re doing a few gigs in Mexico. It’s gonna be a bit of a short stint, like 5 shows but I’m looking forward to it.”
And The Cribs man returned the sentiments, but said even though it’s great having Marr playing with them now, he’s looking forward to making a fresh start with Johnny on the next record once they’ve wrapped up the tour for their third album, Men’s Needs Women’s Needs Whatever..
Jarman explained: “We’re kinda putting this record to bed now, it’s just the right time for this to finish I think. We’re just getting started with Johnny so it’s kinda frustrating, it’s been like 20 months which is a long time and it’s taken us far away.
“We started the record off with a secret tour of really small venues and the last UK show, that’s not a festival, is gonna be the same thing, which is where we started and what we’re most comfortable with. It’s a nice book-end.”

God, this going to be such an incredible album and think of the live tour…. Besides it makes me happy to know that we’ve spoken with Mr. J. Marr about his love for the Cribs. Holla
Moar Marr, Moar Cribs
Thursday, July 24th, 2008
Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos has heard five new songs destined for the forthcoming album by The Cribs and Johnny Marr, and has given the lowdown on them.
NME.COM had previously heard demos of the songs, which showcased a fast pace and hugely prominent guitar riffs, sounding like The Cribs at their most frenetic, but with bulkier guitar lines.
Kapranos, who produced The Cribs’ last album, 2007′s ‘Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever’, has since heard newer versions of the songs, which he has described as “amazing”.
“Ross [Jarman, The Cribs' drummer] played me a few songs that they’d recorded with Johnny and they sound amazing,” Karpanos told BBC 6music.
“He had them on his iPod. It was funny, because the guitars were panned hard right and left and it’s amazing – in one ear you’ve got this very distinctive Johnny Marr style, and in the left ear you’ve got this very distinctive Ryan Jarman style. It’s cool, it really works.”

modest mouse new ep
Wednesday, February 6th, 2008MORE MODEST MOUSE NEWS
*NOTE: I (and I think I speak for Colette on this one as well) do not really condone the music of Modest Mouse, however due to the fact that my alltime favorite guitarist and secret love of my life (or not so secret) JOHNNY MARR (i love you bb i love you and how cute does he look in that picture? The man is perpetually attractive!!) is now in this band, I will be posting information pertinent to the new and hopefully better recordings they shall be producing. (Steam Engenius from the last album wasn’t bad?) Anyway, on to the news:
Modest Mouse must be the busiest rodents since the dress-makers in Cinderella. In the February 7 issue of Rolling Stone (the one with Thom Yorke on the cover), frontman Isaac Brock revealed a whole bunch of post-We Were Dead activity to the “Smoking Section” column. Although none of this info has been confirmed yet, here’s what he had to say:
First, “My big priority is to finish up this Modest Mouse EP,” which Rolling Stone says will feature “repolished outtakes from Modest Mouse’s last two discs.” Among the songs slated for inclusion on the EP according to Brock are “The Whale Song”, “Satellite Skin”, and a tune with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. (You might remember Dirty Dozen from such Modest Mouse songs as “Horn Intro” and “This Devil’s Workday” from Good News for People Who Love Bad News.)
However, that isn’t all that’s brewing in camp Modest Mouse. Brock told Rolling Stone that he and former Smiths/current MM guitarist Johnny Marr will begin writing new songs in March, before the band starts its tour with R.E.M. and the National.
Brock is also planning to contribute vocals to a Frank Black and the Catholics re-creation of the late Lee Hazlewood’s 1963 debut album Trouble Is a Lonesome Town.
Finally, while it’s not musical in nature, our favorite tidbit from the Rolling Stone interview is the revelation that Brock has been fishing with Shins frontman James Mercer. Considering the season, we imagine it’s ice fishing, and if that’s the case, only one question remains: Who’s Lemmon and who’s Matthau?

another reason i wish I was in Glasgow
Saturday, February 2nd, 2008The Cribs were joined onstage by The Smiths’ Johnny Marr in Glasgow on the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour last night (February 1).
The legendary guitarist joined the Wakefield three-piece during their headline slot at the city’s Barrowlands venue, performing The Smiths’ classic ‘Panic’ and The Cribs own track ‘I’m A Realist’ together.
Introducing Marr, frontman Ryan Jarman told the crowd that “The Cribs are going to have a fourth member for the first time ever!”
Marr has been working with the trio after making friends with Gary Jarman following the pair’s meeting in Portland, Oregon, and is rumoured to be linking-up with the trio after further dates on the current tour.
The band also had a second – albeit recorded – guest as Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo recreated his part for ‘Be Safe’ via a giant video screen .
The rest of The Cribs set featured tracks from all three of their albums, though focussed mainly on their newer material, including the anthemic ‘Men’s Needs’ and a rousing rendition of ‘The Wrong Way’, which ended with Ryan Jarman stripping-off his shirt and diving head-first into the crowd.
The Cribs played:
‘Don’t You Wanna Be Relevant’
‘Our Bovine Public’
‘Hey Scenesters!’
‘Girls Like Mystery’
‘My Life Flashed Before My Eyes’
‘Martell’
‘I’ve Tried Everything’
‘Woman’s Needs’
‘Moving Pictures’
‘Bastards Of Young’
‘Be Safe’
‘Men’s Needs’
‘Mirror Kissers’
‘Another Number’
‘Ancient History’
‘The Wrong Way To Be’
‘Panic’
‘I’m A Realist’
God what a way to start off February, eh? Fookin’ wish I were there. Forgive me for blatantly copying NME. I am too lazy to retype. I have 3 tests and a paper due before Thursday! Which is when I am coming back to LA for a reuniting with the Kooks.
Also, credit to this man (http://flickr.com/photos/danden/) for that picture of R.Jarman.

omg omg omg cribs + johnnnyyyy marrr
Thursday, January 24th, 2008this is like, the best thing i’ve ever heard in my entire life of all time (text stolen from nme):
The Cribs have been writing new songs with ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr.
The penning of tunes has been taking place this week (January 21) in Stockport, and the band will record demos of the songs tomorrow (January 25).
Speaking to NME.COM, bassist Gary Jarman revealed that the fruits of the sessions may be recorded properly then released as an EP, or may contribute to a full album in collaboration with Marr.
Jarman, who lives in Portland, USA explained that he struck up a friendship with Marr (who was living there during his collaboration with Modest Mouse) after meeting him at a barbecue, then began discussing a collaboration.
“I was a bit defensive at first – I was like, ‘Who’s this other English guy at the barbecue?’, Jarman explained. “He came up and started talking to me and then the penny dropped about who he actually was.
“We became mates, then one day we went out for afternoon tea. We drank a few pots of this white tea he’s really into, and decided to work together.”
Jarman added that the songs they have been working on with Marr may feature on a future EP or even a full album.
