The King Khan & BBQ Show were nowhere to be found when it came time for them to take the stage at Off Broadway in St. Louis last night. The garage-rock act “missed its early evening soundcheck and were MIA and incommunicado throughout the night,” according to a Riverfront Times blog post, which offers a full chronicle of the concert.

According to King Khan & BBQ Show’s publicist, the duo “have had some kind of hold up in [Tennessee] and are missing tonight’s and possibly all shows this weekend.” Pretty vague.

The Riverfront Times reports that show promoter Joey O’Farrell and Off Broadway owner Steve Pohlman claimed Arish “King” Khan and Mark “BBQ Show” Sultan were allegedly arrested on drug possession charges, though that has not been confirmed yet.

UPDATE: The Kansas City Pitch reports that King Khan & BBQ Show’s booking agent has confirmed that the band was indeed arrested in Hopkinsville, Kentucky yesterday. However, there is no information about what charges were brought against them. The band is currently out on bail, but their tour manager is still behind bars. Tonight’s show in Lawrence, Kansas has been cancelled.

UPDATE: According to the Pitch, openers Those Darlins and Spook Lights are still scheduled to play tonight in Kansas City.

According to the Riverfront Times, tour manager Kristin Klein was charged with driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance.

I wonder what this means for the Visas…. They are both Canadian and now Khan resides in Berlin…. Hope this doesn’t threaten anything

The King Khan & BBQ Show, wacky motherfuckers that they are, don’t announce new albums via press release, the way sane people do. Instead, the dynamic garage rock duo jump on their MySpace page and post an alternately informative and annoying “KKBBQ Infomercial” featuring tons of song clips and goofy voices. (Whoever does the Snaggletooth impression should really consider never doing a Snaggletooth impression again.)

So here’s the pertinent information: The new album will be called Invisible Girl. It’s out on November 3. The infomercial promises “12 songs loaded with kicks”, and someone describes it as “a love story of hate.”

The duo’s publicist has also filled in some blanks. Garage powerhouse In the Red will release the album, which Khan and BBQ recorded last year in Brooklyn and Berlin.
The almost-seven-minute minute infomercial includes a whole lot of song snippets, which are doing a pretty good job getting us excited about the album. Judging by those, there will be plenty of straight-up garage stompers on the LP, as well as at least one discordant psych-rock guitar freakout thing. But other songs show intriguing traces of doo-wop influence, and the best of these snippets (including what sounds like the title track) have an appealingly starry-eyed Ricky Nelson thing going on.

In a MySpace bulletin, the duo claim that they’ll embark on a tour, kicking off October 31 in Brooklyn. Meanwhile, as previously reported, both King Khan and Mark Sultan (aka BBQ), along with all four Black Lips, are members of the new sloppy-traditionalist supergroup the Almighty Defenders. Their self-titled debut is due September 22 via Vice.

Invisible Girl:

01 Anala
02 Invisible Girl
03 I’ll Be Loving You
04 Animal Party
05 Spin the Bottle
06 Third Ave
07 Tastebuds
08 Truth or Dare
09 Crystal Ball
10 Lonely Boy
11 Tryin’
12 Do the Chop

I don’t know if you know, or if you keep up with Black Lips rigorous tour schedule… well, I do, and it’s like a third job (I already have two others). But anyway, they were playing in Toronto as part of NXNE which is totally a fucking RIP and needs to be disbanded immediately. There can only be one festival with awesome abreviations and that is SXSW (and ATP but that’s only because of the Lou Reed connotations). I am calling for all other sad, lowly festivals to disband because they suck in comparison. Anyway, this NXNE was good for one thing, and it is bringing you the following photos:

But more importantly, and trust me, this is worth it…. I stumbled across this little gem on flickr. I took a screen cap so you, too, can enjoy.

Thanks, goodnight.

If you forgot the post where I introduced the ALMIGHTY DEFENDERS, log off this website right now. Just kidding. But seriously, this is going to be one of the most incredible collaborations probably of all humanity. It’s BLACK LIPS and KING KHAN & THE BBQ. Yes, you heard me right. Black Lips AND King Khan. Together. This is the album that the guys made after Black Lips were forced to flee from India, so they ended up in Berlin recording with Khan. Wow.

They’ve got one song off the album up on myspace and have got their first ‘official’ (as it was put) show in TORONTO. (Had it been even marginally closer… I might have gone….)

However, deets are as follows:
