The event will include:

Plus members of The World Record and The Parson Red Heads will take up the duties of our lovely house band.

Plus:

Plus! The first 50 ladies through the door get a keepsake from Bloomers! of Austin.

Tickets are $14 in advance, $16 at the door and you can buy them online or in person at Origami Vinyl on Sunset. I recommend buying them now because this event will sell out. Oh! And this goes without saying, but 60’s-inspired beach attire is suggested.

Bolded are the bands that you should be seeing. Extra bolded (if that was a real thing and could be done by someone as not savvy as myself) would be the Growlers. If you read this blog, you know why/when/how/crazy you’d be not to see them, so just do yourself and me a favor and go okay?

Your Thursday night plans

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Yo, sorry I’ve been completely neglecting my this ol’ blog, but I moved a few days ago and I’ve apparently stopped taking days off work so now when I get home all I want to do is eat a bowl of pasta and pass out, but I’m back to give the Angelenos a few music picks for tonight.

Photobucket

Firstly, Spindrift and Magic Mirror at The Echo is always a worthy choice, and the band Nurses from Portland is in town and supporting and they’ve got a bit of that mystical, Edward Sharpe-y, mountain dwelling, bearded, lots of funky instruments thing going on. And we all know that can be astoundingly boring or really cool, luckily they’re the latter.

Photobucket

And then there’s this rad lineup at Spaceland, seriously, all of these bands are winners. The younger, fresher, yet to be drug-addled faces of LA’s psychedelic rock scene. I kind of saw Spirit Vine by accident last summer, enjoyed the show a lot and I’ve been meaning to see them again ever since. I’m sure they’ve only gotten more awesome in the last 10 months, so I’m expecting a killer show tonight. Plus Hocus Pocus aka Special K and Flying J aka Dios?! and My Pet Saddle? Can’t go wrong….see you there.

live review :: the growlers & my pet saddle | new years eve 09

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

MY PET SADDLE were awesome opening up for the Growlers. They are an awesome up and coming band. Colette had turned me onto them, but seeing them live was awesome. They’re still really young and fresh-faced but their songs sounded awesome and I liked the two lead singers and the energy that they gave off. They also had some elongated jams at the ends of songs which were excellent. Shit review of a soon-to-be great band.

THE GROWLERS. What am I supposed to say about the Growlers that I haven’t already said about 1500 times? I’ve seen them 9 times this year, and all nine times have been 150% awesome. New Years Eve was such a special concert (as was the Halloween gig before it) that I can’t in any way describe it for you – but you can just read all my old Growlers posts because the gigs were as per the usual – GREAT. What I appreciate about the Growlers is their ever-changing setlist. Of course, there are live favorites that we hear everytime like ‘Something Someone Jr.’ and ‘Acid Rain’ but they always manage to throw in some weird ones like ‘Kick The Habit of Dredd’ and ‘Nosebleed Sun Blues’ which was AMAZING and I don’t think I’d ever heard that one live before. I also really love their dedication to being ridiculous. Clearly, all the members of the band are mentally insane – in a very functional, artistic way, but they really are! The outfits they showed up in just made me laugh and it’s always a pre-Growlers gig ritual to guess what they’ll be wearing, although NOTHING (NOTHING!!!) will top the Halloween garb. Anyway, the Growlers truly are the greatest band on the planet right now. If you can’t see it now, you certainly will see it by the close of 2010, that is guaranteed!

NEW YEARS EVE 2009: ‘And why is it New Years Eve is always shit?’

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Well, it’s the end of 2009. I still have a big roundup post to make, or that I’m telling myself to make, who knows if it’ll happen. I still have to pack, anyway. As Liz Lemon would say, Blergh! But this year’s New Years Eve looks like t’will be the best in years. I’ve had a couple of traumatic new years eve’s in a row, I know Jamie T knows what I’m talking about…. but this year is NOT going to be shit because THE AMAZING GROWLERS and the awesome MY PET SADDLE are playing at the best venue in the world. I would get tix for this, as it’s going to be amazing!

A hearty recommendation for Friday night
