This is kind of an eclectic mix of songs that I’m really not sure work altogether, but April’s been one of those kind of months. I always write this, like, every other month, but I spent half of it in America, and half over in England, so it’s kind of weird. Enjoy.

01 Earl Sweatshirt – Dat Ass
02 Lil B – Think I’m Based God
03 Burnt Ones – Sunset Hill
04 Shannon & The Clams – You Will Always Bring Me Flowers
05 Balkans – Troubled and Done
06 Sonny & The Sunsets – Teen Age Thugs
07 Carnivores – Darker Days
08 Monster Rally – Island on Fire
09 Acid Glasses – Polnara Setera
10 Best Coast – So Gone (Daytrotter Session)
11 Swampmeat – Guns & Knives
12 Catholic Spray – Beast In The Bushes

Okay. So you know we adore Sex Beet. There’s nothing like crazy people who love the same music as me, making noisy, fucking rocking, catchy, grating songs with tons of shouting.  And they’re playing up in Birmingham on the 5th of March. But more importantly, this lineup is RIDICULOUS. If you haven’t gotten on the Castillians train yet, you’re a fool – they, like Sex Beet, make ridiculous good garage jams including one (Lovers Call, grab that shit) that I have not been able to get out of my head since, like, I first heard it back in October. They don’t play live often enough, or around the country enough — so if you’re near, catch them. Also playing are NRBW friends Jerry Tropicano, who we’re happy to see is playing more live since his freeing from Swedish Jail back in January. And rounding out this ridiculous awesomeness is Birmingham’s Swampmeat who we ALSO adore, who make old school 50s Buddy Holly pop songs that are great on their own, and when covered by friends like Sex Beet (check out Right Here, um, right here).

So basically, what I’m saying is fucking go to this. 5 pounds? That is actual chump change — so give it to these people, who not only need the money, but will probably deafen you with their greatness.

Even if Sex Beet sent this cover around for no reason, I’d be happy to share it with you but it also comes with the most excellent news that Luke Lust and Jerry Tropicano are coming home from that desolate, barren Sweden. ‘Dirty Boots’ is obviously a pretty fucked up twist on Sonic Youth’s original, but I’ve always loved it — that said, it’s definitely NOT my favorite Sex Beet cover, it’s a toss up between that Beach Boys ‘I Get Around’ one and the fucking amazing cover of Swampmeat‘s ‘Right Here’. Regardless, you can use this to whet your appetite or whatever thinking about their debut LP which will be, or is being recorded, with Henry from Lovvers who also plays bass on this track that was originally just done with some extra tape at the end of a session. That’s how you know it’s good.

But onto the important stuff, Jerry Tropicano is being released from prison in Malmo and will make his triumphant return to London and they decided to throw him a release party at The Old Blue Last on the 21st of January. Find all the deets below:

SEX BEET (http://www.facebook.com/sexbeet)
Somehow, these three garage punk freaks have spent the past 6 months
touring the UK, Europe and America, with bands such as Best Coast and
The Strange Boys, picking up rave reviews such as “Surprisingly
Tolerable” (newyorkrockmarket.com) and “Sort of Good” (altsounds.com.)
This is their first show of 2011, and most likely they’re gonna get
too wasted, and completely blow it.

JERRY TROPICANO (http://www.jerrytropicano.com/)
Jerry made the big mistake of going on tour with Sex Beet in Europe
over December, and ended up with a month-long prison sentence in
Malmö, Sweden. No shit. He gets out on the 18th Jan, and this party is
all about celebrating this fact. This is also his debut London show.
He’s fucking huge in Paris though, so obviously you’re going to love

THE CEDAR HOUSE BAND (http://www.myspace.com/cedarhouseband)
PNKSLM wandered into The Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham a few months ago, and saw three sexy lads with great hair making even greater
music, that sounded a lot like Flat Duo Jets. They’re basically a
total 50′s rock and roll mess. In a good way. We promised them we
would get them a London show sometime, and we are men of our word.

2010 has been a pretty fun year for music. Every year, I discover more music, better music, and sometimes it cracks me up to see how my music taste grows and differs as the years go by, but I think 2010 has been a great year for new bands and kickass albums. I’ve compiled my list of 10 albums that I really loved, 5 EPs that just got to me, and then 30 songs that I’ve called Top Songs, but they’re just 30 songs that I liked a hell of a lot and came to me as I thought about it and scanned carelessly through iTunes. It’s interesting to note that half of my favorite albums are from California bands.

This Birmingham, UK band was passed onto me a while ago now, and I’ve been tremendously enjoying it ever since, so I don’t know why I haven’t gotten around to posting about them. Despite having toured America in ’07 and making an appearance at SXSW ’08 (how I am kicking myself for not seeing them), there’s hardly anything on the internet about them at all — obviously a super shame. Swampmeat are T-Bird Jones on drums and Danny C on guitar/voice (and what an excellent voice it is) and I’m kind of obsessed with their name — Swampmeat rolls off the tongue in such a pleasing way and the humor in it is ridiculous. They make fantastically honest, kooky throwback country/rockabilly jams that are deeply rooted in old-school, down-home rock ‘n roll. Swampmeat have released two albums on Cold Rice, the first — Double Dutch & Moonshine – and the second, and by far my favorite, Camp Heartbreak, was released late last year, which you can still pick up from the CR Website. ‘Brand New Cadillac’ is my current favorite with Danny crooning about a highly dysfunctional relationship with T-Bird tapping lightly behind him, then it degenerates into something more raucuous and fun. I’m describing this terribly, but this song rules. I promise.

Oh god, how is it the end of October already? That is terrifying. Literally. This month has been pretty rad though – I’ve discovered a lot of great tunes this month, and I give many props to the people who have been funnelling it into my ears. Next month’s gonna be pretty unreal, but October has done me pretty good. Also of note: I’ve spent the entire month with a massive bruise on my arm. So, now that you have that absolutely retarded information, check out the mixtape below.

Also, PS. Isn’t that photo the best thing ever? A pug and a French Bulldog together? It’s like my dream life.
