Heads Up: Walter Meego @ the Echo, November 4th

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

I first saw Walter Meego about two and a half years ago when I was a wee little Modular Records intern working Cut Copy‘s super sold out show at The Echo. As my fellow interns and I were rushing around the venue before the show taping up posters, making sure the boys were taken care of, and trying to find a spare second to feed ourselves, Walter Meego were getting ready to open the show. They first caught my eye because, well, I thought the lead singer was super cute. But then they started playing! I took a little breather and watched them soundcheck a few songs; totally light-hearted, electro but not too electro fun. It’s hard to believe these guys are from Illinois, as their infectious, melodic waves of synth over refreshingly simple and danceable beats would’ve fit perfectly on the Australian Modular Records’ roster. I grabbed their debut album Voyager and it’s still one of my go-to’s when a cathartic solo bedroom dance party is needed. I haven’t seen them play since that night with Cut Copy, so I’m really excited for this show and I hope lots of people come out!
