Over my mid-week weekend trip to London (bullshit British school for the win) I heard one of my favorite songs ‘Funnel of Love’ by the Queen of Rockabilly Wanda Jackson slowed down to 33 RPM and it sounds so fucking cool. And then magically, I get home and Aquarium Drunkard had just posted it. It’s a pretty necessary thing to have to jump on it below:
Yes! The Queen of Rockabilly who we recently fell super hard for, thanks Broke Mogul, was reportedly having her new album produced by Jack White. And today, Pitchforkconfirmed this. Third Man/Nonesuch will release The Party Ain’t Over on January 25. It was recorded with a backing band that consists of White’s friends: White’s wife Karen Elson, the Raconteurs’ Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler, Patti Smith’s son/Meg White’s husband Jackson Smith, and My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemel. The tracklist consists of covers that White picked out, including a take on Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good” that Third Man has already released as a single. You can check out her version of Winehouse’s classic below along with the tracklist to The Party Ain’t Over and download the track that had me fall head over heels for Jackson’s weird, incredbly affecting voice.

August has been a very strange month, but very good. I’ve been driving so much recently, 1300 miles in the span of about 10 days. Holy shit. These songs have been soundtracking my insane driving and the crazy move that I just made back to the UK and what not… You’ll never know the kind of satisfaction that lugging your own weight in clothing 5,000 miles gives you. However, you can listen to what got me through it below….
01 Kanye West – See Me Now
02 Velvet Davenport – When You Are Out
03 Eternal Summers – Pogo
04 Balkans – Bill Spills
05 Caitlin Rose – Shanghai Cigarettes
06 Magic Kids – Superball
07 Happy Birthday – Perverted Girl
08 Sweaters – Sky Mall
09 Chuck Berry – La Juanda (Espanol)
10 Wanda Jackson – Making Believe
11 Cee Lo Green – Fuck You
12 Unouomedude – Buildings
July has been an interesting month… Lots of new tunes that have taken over my stereo, a couple old classics, a fantastic cover courtesy of the Sopranos, and some newly rediscovered songs from excellent bands.
As I have witnessed since early 2007, Entourage has some of the best music on television. I knew it as soon as I heard Jamie T’s Salvador on the ending credits one day a long time ago, in a country far, far away known to us all as Texas. Broke Mogul is the one who does it, and thankfully for all of us, puts some of the music into mixes and downloads. This week’s episode featured the awesome Queen of Rockabilly, Wanda Jackson’s classic “Funnel of Love”.
