The great Raven Sings The Blues turned us onto this great Woven Bones cover. On K Radio, they got to fulfill their obvious Velvet Underground sonic boner fantasy by doing a really ripping version of Sister Ray. And it’s times like these when I remember that I actually like Woven Bones and forget that I have negative feelings towards them for whatever reason. Get this. It’s as raw and pulsating and ripping as they are live — which, if you’ve never seen them attempt to get on it. I’m pretty sure they’ll tour a bunch out of the latter end of 2k11 after their next album gets written and recorded. Enjoy.

I know all of my readers know the score: I’m from California (where it was 85 degrees yseterday) but currently in Brighton (where it’s balls cold all year long). And it’s the holidays, so I’m fleeing this cold arctic winter place for the milder climate, but I thought I’d pay tribute to England via a mixtape. I hope England appreciates the 10 minutes of effort I put into this (hey, I had to open up Photoshop and put text on the picture, okay?). But first, let me say that listening to cold, gloomy, depressing, “winter-y” songs when it’s cold is a fool’s game. The best way to keep warm when it’s disgusting outside (well, the sun is currently out but it’s still frigid) is to listen to the most summery songs possible. Now, do it:

2010 has been a pretty fun year for music. Every year, I discover more music, better music, and sometimes it cracks me up to see how my music taste grows and differs as the years go by, but I think 2010 has been a great year for new bands and kickass albums. I’ve compiled my list of 10 albums that I really loved, 5 EPs that just got to me, and then 30 songs that I’ve called Top Songs, but they’re just 30 songs that I liked a hell of a lot and came to me as I thought about it and scanned carelessly through iTunes. It’s interesting to note that half of my favorite albums are from California bands.

Austin’s great Woven Bones, who I have been listening to a LOT recently, have just signed to Hardly Art! Congrats, boom, hoo-to-the-ray! They’ve got a lot of shit going on recently….
First up is a new 7″ on Hardly Art, a-side is “I’ve Gotta Get” b/w “Hey Kid”. “I’ve Gotta Get” is a choice cut off their album, In & Out & Back Again, which is out on HoZaC Records. Below their plethora of tour dates, you can download the a-side to this amazing 7″ which you should pick up here and get your hands on August 10th.
Secondly, the Bones are going on a massive tour, starting with Happy Birthday in Texas (just kill me now, I cannot make it) for Chaos in Tejas, then over and around before ending up with an August 19th show here at Spaceland which you can purchase tickets for here, and will be supported by the great Meek, Catwalk, and Animal Style (like In & Out fries?). Our favorite HoZaC signees, Woven Bones, recently cruised over to Insound to do an in-studio session with them highlighting some tracks off of their debut, In and Out and Back Again, which you can pick up over here. Below, you can see video’s of Andy/Carolyn/Matt playing NRBW-favorite ‘Wanna Tell Ya’ and download the version the track, which has been on repeat, acoustic or otherwise.
