Well, yesterday I got my wisdom teeth out. After a whole lot of fighting, attempting to get my heart rate down so low they couldn’t do it (got it down to 41! mind over body, ftw!) I finally had it done. I’ve been sitting at home with an icepack stuck to my face, guzzling vicodin like it’s my job and attempting to eat soup – so naturally I made a playlist. These are songs I’ve been obsessed with lately, and you’re gonna love ‘em. Fact.

One of our favorite Austin bands (still competition from Strange Boys and Harlem, though, ya hear?) Woven Bones recently visited the Tripwire to get naked. And by naked, they mean they get acoustic. And it’s a bomb version of “Wanna Tell Ya”. I gotta say, I love Woven Bones’ fuzz and scuzz and dirt and grime (especially when played in Beerland) but I have been entranced by their Spaceman 3 acoustic cover and now this one. I guess it just goes to show that no matter how much shit you layer on top of songs, if they work acoustic, you know you’re writing good songs. And that is just what Woven Bones are doing. Check out their debut album, In & Out & Back Again, out now on HoZaC Records. They were also named by the Phoenix as the BEST NEW BAND IN TEXAS, which I couldn’t agree more with (I don’t think the Uptown Bums are ready for the title yet, but soon!) so check out that little feature here.

As I’m sure you all know, Woven Bones’ debut album, In & Out & Back Again, dropped yesterday on the great HoZac Records and I gotta say, I’m loving it. So check out their new video for ‘Your Way With My Life’ which is one of the more standout tracks on the album. Austin’s fab Woven Bones are streaming their new record, In & Out & Back Again, through Fader today. The album comes out on HoZaC Records on May 18th but you can now listen to it and decide if you wanna plunk down the money for it. I’ve gotten my little hot hands on a copy of this record and have become increasingly enchanted by it. I’ve always been a half-hearted Woven Bones fan – I know they’re great but something’s stopping me from becoming obsessed. I think their debut album is going to swing the tides the other way. Although they’ve cleaned up production for the album, it’s still got the grimy noise, the spastic solos and the dirty hooks. It’s the kind of record you want to listen to in a dingy club (may I suggest the Echo?) and psych out to. Andy and co. have really stepped it up – their EP recieved a lot of play around these parts, as did their singles – and I can forsee great things for them. ‘Creepy Bone’ is amazing – I am constantly astounded by the interplay between the bass and the guitar, one is the lifeline, the blood that keeps the songs flowing and the guitar is so playful and calculated at the same time. ‘Can’t Help But Stare’ is another standout. Check this shit out and then on May 18th grab your copy.

Here’s the (according to Stereogum) VU-ish “Guess You Already Knew”, the lead track from their upcoming debut LP ‘In And Out And Back Again’ which will be out on HoZac Records. If you haven’t heard Woven Bones, don’t delay. I’ve tried to deny my love for this scuzzy Austin trio but their excellent shows at SXSW forced me to admit my love for their intense snarling songs.
